Powerful Video Compression Made Simple
Large video files eat up storage, slow down uploads, and hit file size limits on email and messaging apps. Our free video compressor shrinks MP4, AVI, MOV, MKV, and 13 other formats by up to 90% — using the same encoding technology that professional video editors rely on.
Whether you need to squeeze a clip under 25 MB for WhatsApp, hit a specific bitrate for streaming, or batch-compress a folder of recordings, you can do it in three clicks. No account, no watermark, no software to install.
Six Ways to Compress
- Simple Presets — one-click Light, Medium, or Strong compression for quick results
- Target Quality (CRF) — fine-grained control with a quality slider from 18 (near-lossless) to 51 (maximum compression)
- Target File Size (%) — tell us what percentage of the original size you want, and we calculate the right bitrate
- Target File Size (MB) — enter an exact size limit (e.g. 25 MB for email) and we hit it precisely
- Target Bitrate — set the exact video bitrate in kbps for full manual control
- Platform Presets — one-click optimization for YouTube, TikTok, Instagram Reels, WhatsApp, Discord, and more

H.264 vs H.265 — Which Codec Should You Use?
We offer two industry-standard codecs for video compression. Your choice depends on whether you prioritize compatibility or file size.
H.264 (AVC)
- Plays on virtually every device and browser
- Fast encoding speed on all hardware
- Best choice for maximum compatibility
- Ideal for sharing, streaming, social media
H.265 (HEVC)
- 30-50% smaller files at the same quality
- Best for high-resolution content (1080p, 4K)
- Slower encoding but superior compression
- Supported on most modern devices since 2017
Our recommendation: Use H.264 (the default) for sharing videos on social media or via messaging apps. Switch to H.265 when you need the smallest possible file and know the recipient has a modern device.
Supported Video Formats
Upload any of these 17 video formats. Output is always an optimized MP4 file — the most widely supported container format.
Up to 90% Smaller Videos
Advanced encoding with H.264 and H.265 codecs delivers dramatic file size reduction while preserving visual clarity. Most videos compress 40-70% with the default settings.
Full Control Over Quality
Choose from six compression methods: simple presets, CRF quality slider, percentage target, exact file size, direct bitrate, or social media platform optimization.
Platform-Optimized Output
One-click presets for YouTube, TikTok, Instagram Reels, Facebook, WhatsApp, Discord, Twitter/X, and email. Each preset uses the correct resolution, aspect ratio, and bitrate.
Resolution & Codec Options
Downscale from 4K to 360p, switch between H.264 and H.265, and adjust encoding speed. Advanced users can fine-tune every parameter.
Secure & Private
Your video files are processed in an isolated environment and automatically deleted after compression. Nothing is stored, shared, or analyzed beyond what is needed for the compression.
Works on Any Device
No software to download. Compress video files from your desktop, laptop, tablet, or phone using just your web browser. Completely free with no account required.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will compressing my video reduce the quality?
All video compression involves some quality tradeoff, but with modern codecs like H.264 and H.265, the difference is barely noticeable at reasonable settings. The "Medium" preset (CRF 28) typically delivers visually identical output at 40-60% smaller file size. If quality is critical, use "Light" compression or lower the CRF value.
What is the CRF value and how should I set it?
CRF (Constant Rate Factor) controls quality on a scale from 18 to 51. Lower values mean better quality and larger files. CRF 18 is nearly lossless, CRF 23 is high quality, CRF 28 is a good balance, and CRF 32+ prioritizes small file size. Most users should start with 28 and adjust from there.
What is the maximum file size I can compress?
You can upload video files up to 200 MB each, and process up to 5 files at once. The output is always an MP4 file, which is the most universally compatible video format.
How do platform presets work?
Each social media platform has specific requirements for resolution, aspect ratio, and bitrate. When you select a platform like "TikTok" or "YouTube", we automatically apply the optimal settings — including vertical 9:16 aspect ratio for TikTok/Reels, square 1:1 for Instagram Feed, and standard 16:9 for YouTube. The video is automatically scaled and padded to fit.
Why does the output file format change to MP4?
MP4 with H.264 or H.265 is the most widely supported video format across devices, browsers, and platforms. Converting to MP4 during compression ensures your video plays everywhere — including on mobile devices, social media, and in email clients.
Is my video stored on your servers?
No. Videos are processed in an isolated environment and automatically deleted after compression completes. We do not store, analyze, or share your files. Your upload is used only for the compression task you requested.
